New Denvelops Kinetic Pergolas

Architectural Hybrid TexTILES are now also available in a flexible version

New flexible hybrid kinetic textil

Thanks to the innovation contest launched by the Bithabitat Foundation of Barcelona City Council for the “generation of ephemeral shadow in public space”, Denvelops has developed the flexible version of its architectural hybrid texTILES .

In colaboration with Eurecat, a renowned technological innovation center located in Catalonia, the Oasis proposal “shade for everyone” presented by Denvelops® was the winner of the contest.

The objective of the competition, to innovate in ephemeral shadows, was a great opportunity to develop the first flexible version of the Denvelops® architectural hybrid textiles. Flexibility, understood as an advantage to develop large formats that can be deployed and cover large surfaces quickly, in this case to form pergolas.

There was also another challenge, taking advantage of Denvelops®’s experience in kinetic finishes, where the pieces move with the wind, to reduce the high wind loads that occur in this type of solutions.

For this purpose, the Denvelops-Eurecat technical team developed a double wing piece that rotates 360º based on the wind speed that is determined, which allows it to assume large wind loads without having to oversize the structure and the anchors, something very useful, especially for designing ballasted solutions.

The result meets the competition idea: Develop an industrialized system of openwork coverings, based on small-format pieces that move with the wind and that can be combined in different densities and patterns according to the needs of each space. That they are 100% recyclable and recoverable, with only three components. Two of them (cables and connectors) are made of stainless steel, perfect to guarantee the durability and resistance of the system. The third component is formed by the shading plates, which can be made of many different materials and geometries, aluminum, wood, steel, HPL, fabrics.
